Charlie Cox and his wife
Jan own The Irish Rose Farm, which is the home of Parnell’s Irish Cobs. The
Irish Rose Farm is located in Fort Collins, Colorado, just an hour north of
Denver. Charlie and Jan imported their first Gypsy horses from Ireland in
2005 to establish their breeding program at The Irish Rose. Along with their
son Adam and his wife Jodi, they breed, train and show these delightful
horses. Parnell’s currently owns 17 Gypsy horses, with horses trained in
dressage and driving, as well as being ridden under English and Western
saddle.
Parnell’s
Irish Cobs is fortunate to own a restored antique Gypsy vardo or living
wagon from the 1930’s, a newly restored Gypsy flat cart, and an antique
Irish jaunting car. The Coxes enjoy taking their Gypsy vehicles and horses
to parades, Celtic festivals and horse shows throughout the US. The vardo
has frequently been part of the AGHBA exhibit at the Equine Affaires in
California and Ohio.
Charlie and Jan have three
sons and one grand-daughter, and have lived in Fort Collins for the past 15
years. Charlie, who was trained as a pulmonary immunopharmacologist, retired
in 2004 after 25 years in various senior management positions in the
pharmaceutical and biotechnology industry. Although rehabilitating the
farmstead and caring for 20 horses keeps him busy most days, Charlie still
does some consulting for biopharmaceutical companies when he can work it in
around driving his Gypsy horses!
